History

dateThe original two roomed limestone cottage was built by German migrant Samuel Bartsch in 1858 on the land he purchased in the government land grant in 1852. Stones for the cottage were collected from nearby paddocks while cultivating the fields. A carved date stone can be found on the northern gable of the cottage.

pfeiffer2In 1873 the property was purchased by the shoemaker Johan Gottlieb Pfeiffer. He built a shoe shop next to the existing cottage and had a very successful business for many years. A quote from the Pfeiffer family reunion book states "later generations claim no one could make a boot as comfortable as Gottlieb." The property stayed in the family for many years and was eventually purchased by Ian and Fiona Koch in 2010 and renovated where it is now heritage cottage accommodation.
